How Clutch Release Bearings Work
A clutch release bearing is a small, self-contained unit that consists of an outer metal casing, an inner bearing, and a series of metal balls or rollers. The bearing is located on the transmission input shaft and is held in place by a retaining clip or spring. When the clutch pedal is depressed, the hydraulic system applies pressure to the clutch slave cylinder, which in turn pushes on the release fork. The release fork then presses on the clutch release bearing, causing it to move towards the flywheel. This movement disengages the clutch, allowing for gear changes.
